Abu Ja’far Musa bin Muhammad al-Mubarqa was the son of the 9th Imam of Twelver Shia (Ithna Ashariyyah) Muhammad Javad, and the younger brother of the 10th Imam, Ali Al-Hadi.
He is very famous as the ancestor of all Sayyids who use the title of his grandfather and the 8th Imam Ali al-Reza (a.s) as their surname.
Most of Rizvi’s Sayyids are descendants of Musa Mubarqa.
Most of them were found in Sabzevar, Iran, before migrating to the Indian subcontinent.
There are still few villages and towns in India that trace their lineage to Musa al-Mubarqa through his son Shahzada (Prince) Ahmad bin Musa.
Musa al-Mubarqa was one of the pious and gentle and famous narrators of his era, and numerous narrations through him have been recorded in hadith books such as “Tuhaf al-Uqul”.
